Research

The Australian Camps Association supports a number of research projects on behalf of it's members, including:

  • The UPLOADS Project

    • The first stage of the Understanding and Preventing Led Outdoor Accidents Data System (UPLOADS) project saw the development of a standardised, national approach to incident reporting and learning for the outdoor sector in Australia. UPLOADS, which was a novel incident reporting system and national database for the Led Outdoor Activity (LOA) sector, enabled the collection and analysis of data on the causes of injury incidents. The system was used by almost 50 organisations, including schools, camps and outdoor recreation providers.

  • Affective Abilities of Outdoor Leaders in Australia

National Soft Skills Training: Investigating Soft Skill Training in the Outdoor Recreation Sector – Mandi Baker, Phd.
    • We know there has been plenty of research on ‘hard skills’ in the outdoors but less attention has been paid to facilitation or ‘soft skills’ in this area. Mandi’s work aims to identify the range of soft skill training currently being undertaken across the country and to highlight any deficiencies that may exist.

  • Outdoor Youth Programs Research Alliance (OYPRA) Research

    • Outdoor Youth Programs Research Alliance was a long-term collaborative project between leading educational institutions and sector partners looking to measure the outcomes of participation in led outdoor activities. A summative document on the project can be found here.

Media Statement: Australian Camps Association Urges WA Government to Extend Camps Funding to all Camp Providers in Western Australia

The Australian Camps Association (ACA) commends the announcement of $2.4 million in funding to support Western Australian public-school camps and the government’s recognition of the value of school camps in shaping young people’s lives and supporting families experiencing cost-of-living pressures, however, we are also disappointed and concerned regarding the restrictive allocation of this funding...
