Mittagundi Outdoor Education Centre
21 - 50 VIC - High Country

Mittagundi is an independent non-profit organisation that provides challenge and recognition of place for young people (14 to 18) in a remote and simple bush setting. The property based at Glen Valley, Vic (40km East of Falls Creek) houses a 1900Â’s pioneer style farm. An outdoor education centre and working farm established with the belief that young people, mountains, purposeful work and challenges are natural partners.

Our Vision - To excel at helping young people find their purpose and achieve their potential.

Our Mission - Mittagundi Outdoor Education Centre exists to provide
- for young people from a variety of backgrounds, educational opportunities and activities designed to foster self-reliance, self-esteem, independence and the capacity to fit in and contribute to a community. Encourage awareness knowledge and appreciation of the environment and ecological systems. Impart a basic knowledge of agriculture. Impart a basic knowledge of agriculture and horticulture.
-Generally increase the capacity of young people to live under and deal with physically and mentally taxing conditions.

Situated on a 400 acre property near the old mining town of Glenn Valley, on the Upper Mitta Mitta River, north of Omeo, Mittagundi is a home away from home for more than 500 young people each year.

At Mittagundi we provide programs for young people (14-17yrs) to explore Victoria's High Country and themselves. Participants spend time bush walking, camping, abseiling from nearby cliffs, rafting the Mitta Mitta River and helping to run the farm. The Atmosphere at Mittagundi is simple, honest and happy. There are no watches, no timetables and no money. Instead, there is an opportunity for young people to live and work together in an environment where people matter more than anything else.

During our programs we ask all young people to uphold four values respect, responsibility, fairness, safety and deliver these values in a fun environment. We like to make the course available to as many young people as possible so deliver the program at an incredible low rate. We also offer sponsorships. We aim to provide challenging and meaningful experiences to young people using the natural bush and a simple lifestyle as a unique leveller. The young people who attend Mittagundi courses are from a variety of backgrounds, and encourage no more than 4-6 young people from the same school per course* so that the young people are away from their normal peer groups. All pickup, excluding winter programs, are at Albury train station or arrangements can be also made for a pick up at Bairnsdale train station.

During winter season and at intervals throughout the year we accept mixed gender school groups.
