ACA Expands Disability Camps Program to NSW and QLD
At the Australian Camps Association, we are thrilled to be working toward expanding our People Outdoors program into Queensland and New South Wales in 2024. People Outdoors provides supported camps for children, teens and adults living with disability.
Initial research indicates that there seems to be a gap in services in these states and we're happy with the interest in the program that's been shown to-date.
In August 2023, our CEO, Peter McDougall and Head of People Outdoors, Sandra Murphy, visited ACA Member camps in both states to check the suitability of the sites for hosting our programs. Since then, we have now secured three different sites to host our initial programs interstate.
Save the dates!
If you'd like to join us on one of these camps, please contact the team on 03 9863 6824 or complete the online referral form here (for new campers).
Job Opportunities Now Available!
We are currently hiring Disability Support Workers to support our campers on camp. If you know a support worker in Queensland or New South Wales that is looking for casual work, please pass on our job ads to them.
There has been great interest in these roles and our team are currently busy interviewing these interstate applicants in preparation for 2024.
Having both staff and campers living in these states and attending our program will be a great achievement for the Australian Camps Association who has been working toward the expansion of this program for a number of years.
We're already spreading the word, but you can help!
We have recently exhibited at the Brisbane Disability Expo and the Sydney Care Expo. These events were a wonderful opportunity to speak with potential campers in-person.
There has been lots of expressions of interest in the program coming through and it would be wonderful if you could all help us spread the word! If you know someone living with disability in Queensland and New South Wales, we'd appreciate it if you could let them know about our program - we'd love to see as many campers on camp as possible.
To assist new campers and their support coordinators to learn about our programs, our team is ready to answer any questions you may have about our camps in New South Wales and Queensland.

The Australian Camps Association (ACA) commends the announcement of $2.4 million in funding to support Western Australian public-school camps and the government’s recognition of the value of school camps in shaping young people’s lives and supporting families experiencing cost-of-living pressures, however, we are also disappointed and concerned regarding the restrictive allocation of this funding...
