NSW Supreme Court Case Involving Bunk Beds

On 26 June 2009 there was a judgement passed down by the Supreme Court of NSW in relation to a 10 year old boy falling from a bunk bed while on a sleepover at a friend’s house.

Click here to see the judgement.In essence the parents who were the defendants had some problems with the safety rail and the ladder on the bunk bed and removed them.

The plaintiff was awarded the sum of $853,396.

For us the message is clear that we need to comply with the Australian Standard for bunk beds and if we don’t then we leave ourselves exposed to risk.
